Kevin Frilet began his career as an assistant director in the film industry with some household names, such as Luc Besson and Clint Eastwood, but it was the work with Christopher Nolan that really stands out for him. “It was a privilege,” says Kevin. “I was fascinated by his methodology and sense of calm. He is a true author - he concentrates on the interpretation of the script, and sometimes rewrote scenes as we shot.”

In more recent years, he has focused on directing short films and commercials for perfume and beauty brands, such as Dior, Fendi, Paco Rabanne, Armani, YSL Beauty and L’Oréal. However, the film he is most proud of is Under – his first work as a director, which was shot entirely underwater. Inspired by a poem by Paul Eluard, it was made with friends, on a tiny budget. It was featured in film festivals around the world and on Nowness. Regardless of the subject matter, for Kevin, “A film should ask questions. And create emotions. The image must serve a purpose, an idea, a conversation. Otherwise it’s just style.”
