Photographer based in New York

Max Papendieck is an Australian-born photographer based in New York whose work explores the depth of human presence and connection. Originally from Adelaide, he moved to the United States in 2006 on a basketball scholarship, a journey that eventually carried him from the court to the studio. In 2014, he launched his career with Maybelline, quickly establishing a voice defined by sensitivity to people, their stories, and their emotions.

His practice is driven by curiosity about what makes each encounter unique. That pursuit has led him to create imagery for Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Clé de Peau, with his work appearing in Vogue and other leading publications. In 2023, Papendieck released Body of Work, a project distilling his fascination with Intimacy and storytelling into a series of portraits and studies. Reflecting his instinctive approach, the images demonstrate how photography can become a space of trust, where both vulnerability and strength emerge before the lens.
